A Note on Ash

Hi, I’m Ash Woods, author of Phoenixglade and a professional overthinker of feelings, because feelings are kind of the whole point… and someone has to.
I write gentle, funny fairy tales for modern families. These are stories where safety doesn’t need fear, and kindness isn’t naïve.

Phoenixglade is my love letter to my son, and to modern childhood: a woodland world of Message Birds, second chances, and the brave little act of turning oops into okay. I hope these stories become the kind you come back to — for comfort, laughter, and courage.

Why Phoenixglade Exists

Phoenixglade exists to give children space to grow beyond old stereotypes. Stories where stepmothers are always wicked, wolves are always evil, and fear is used as the main teacher don’t leave much room for understanding.

This is a place where fear, care, and kindness can exist together. Not in opposition, but in balance. Phoenixglade invites children to explore the space between them safely, with curiosity and understanding.

In Phoenixglade, children learn that:

  • Adults usually mean well, even when they worry too much

  • Children are capable of being sensible as well as curious

  • Parental rules exist for safety, not control

  • Mistakes will happen, and that’s part of growing

  • Most mistakes come from misunderstanding, not malice

  • And most importantly: kindness is an action, not a lecture
